ANTI-POLLUTION: SKIN IN THE CITY

City life can be an exciting whirlwind of weekend brunches, pop up restaurants, and after-work drinks, but after time the hectic pace of urban living can begin to take its toll, especially on your skin. But, don’t fret, simply follow our top beauty tips to transform your skin from dull and grey to healthy looking and glowing.

SPECIFIC SKIN PROBLEMS AFFECTING CITIZENS OF THE CITY

It’s an urban dilemma, but poor air quality, pollution, stress, late nights, bad diets, hard and poor water quality, too much alcohol, staring at
screens all day, and exposure to UV rays can all lead to dull skin.

Some of these unfortunate factors expose us to a greater amount of free radicals or can give us dry and dehydrated skin, which can become
sensitive, fatigued, and at risk of breakouts and premature ageing.

PROBLEMS WITH POLLUTION

product

Pollution can clog pores that lead to blemishes and breakouts. It can also accelerate cell oxidation, which brings on dull skin with uneven texture and greyish tones. Constant exposure to pollution can lead to dry skin and even premature ageing. To help combat all the effects of urban pollution it’s recommended to have a good nightly cleansing routine followed by a non-comedogenic moisturiser.

EFFECTS OF HARD WATER

Hard water contains chemicals that may irritate the skin by imbalancing the natural skin barrier. This can deplete moisture and nourishment leaving the skin dry, unprotected, and exposed to UV radicals and external elements.

THE IMPACT OF STRESS

When the body is stressed the body becomes tense and everything tends to work in a faster, more volatile way that minimises the absorption of water, vitamins, and vital nutrients. Stress can result in skin that is dry, dehydrated, depleted and in need of vitality. Stress can also affect our hormonal balance by exacerbating the production of sebum, which can result in blemishes and breakouts.

TECHNOLOGY ON OVERTIME

Using a computer for more than 8 hours a day can put your eyes under a lot of stress, which may lead to a feeling of fatigue and tension.

STAYING HEALTHY INSIDE AND OUT

Having a bad diet or consuming excessive amounts of salt, sugar, fizzy, and caffeinated drinks can result in poor skin condition that may affect skin tone, reduce the production of collagen and weaken the skin’s natural barrier function.
